Canterbury Park Hosts IPHRA Indian Relay Race at Final Weekend of Season
Canterbury Park in Shakopee hosts the IPHRA (Indian Professional Horse Racing Association) 2013 'Battle at Canterbury Park' Indian Relay Race for the championships.
Riders and horses from Montana, South Dakota, Idaho, and Wyoming competed on bareback for the championship title.
The indian horse relay race is one of the first American Indian sports relying heavily on the rider Indian Relay Race draws large crowd and the 3 horses chosen for this 3 mile event. Action is guaranteed as the riders come in for the exchange at breakneck speed and jump off one race horse to the next.
The crowd really enjoyed this sport while they stood on their feet and cheered as they watched the amazing riders
and horses in this traditional Native American Sport.
